Abstract
The seizure of the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) by Juhayman al-'Otaybi and his ‎comrades is a turning point in the history of Salafism in the contemporary era.  There are ‎different analyses as to the effect of Juhayman's uprising and his thoughts on Salafism in the ‎decades following his death. This article is an analytical descriptive study relying on existing ‎sources to substantiate the fact that the modern Salafism in general and Al-Qaeda in ‎particular have been, by and large, influenced by Juhayman's uprising and thoughts.  In view ‎of the different missions, goals and areas of the activities of Al-Qaeda and contemporary ‎Salafism, this study aims to ascertain the causes and areas of Juhayman's influence on other ‎Salafi movements. Also, efforts have been made to identify the key figures responsible for ‎the transfer of this legacy‎.
