Abstract
The division of tawhid (meaning oneness of Allah) is one of the issues discussed in connection with monotheism and polytheism. Most Salafis have divided monotheism into three types: monotheism in lordship, monotheism in divinity and monotheism in the attributes. This division is considered as a criterion through which people are judged and categorized as being either monotheists or polytheists. The truth is that this division suffers from many setbacks and problems six of which are enumerated as under: First: The aforementioned division is against Salafist principles. Second: The divisions offered by Salafists are overlapping one another. Third: The said division is not exclusive. Fourth: The division is not inclusive. Fifth: To use the term "Rabb" and mean "creation" is not correct. Sixth: To use the term "Ilah" and mean "the worshipped" is disputable.
