Abstract
The Hanbali school of thought maintains that there is no radical difference between Muslims in major issues, and all Muslims believe in Monotheism and prophethood of the Holy prophet Muhammad (PBH). They believe that there is no reason to excommunicate other Muslims. The Hanbali scholars, in spite of some severe difference in ideological and jurisprudential issues, did not give fatwa to excommunicate other Muslims. Hanafi jurisprudence is based on not excluding other Muslims from the realm of Islam. However, some Hanafi scholars resorting to some books, issued fatwas and excommunicate other Muslims, which is against the mainstream views of Hanafi scholars. in this article, we are going to explain the Hanafi criteria for Takfir and excommunication and then critique the views of those Hanafi scholars issued Takfiri Fatwas.
