Abstract
Wahhabism has presented a definition from worship that considers many of the actions of Muslims as examples of major polytheism and a departure from Islam. They consider worship to be merely any kind of submission, without paying attention to the real intention. Therefore, they consider any kind of seeking help from the dead and asking help from other than God for example the prophets to be shirk and diversion from the true path of Islam. The result of this kind of thinking will lead to the takfir of many Muslims who perform the above actions without intending to worship or deity of other than Allah .Ibn Kathir, a scholar from Damascus, is one of those scholars who has a clear explanation of worship and its manifestations. Based on Islamic principles, he considers "intention" and "belief" as the main pillars of "legitimate worship" and in explaining the manifestations of worship, he has not deviated from the framework of Islam. He does not consider seeking help, seeking intercession from the righteous, seeking blessings from their relics, sacrificing in holy places, and prostrating to anyone other than Allah as examples of polytheism in worship. Therefore, he cannot be considered in agreement with Wahhabism in the understanding and identification of the monotheism of worship.
