According to the teachings of Imam Shafi'i and his followers, all Muslims believe in the same principles and their different views are not contradictive. This has led Shafi'i scholars not to excommunicate their opponents and not to consider them outside of Islam, despite the fact that there are some disagreements in theological and jurisprudential issues. The Shafi'i jurisprudence is based on accepting other Muslims and not accusing others to heresy. But some Shafi'i scholars, resorting to some unauthentic texts, have given Fatwas of Takfir which is a deviation from the Shafi' principles. In the present article, the basis of the Shafi'i sect in takfir will be explained, and then some of the unusual fatwas of Shafi'i scholars are mentioned, which are considered as a departure from the famous main stream ideology of this sect. Finally, this Takfiri ideology will be criticized.
