Abstract
The human ability to produce supernatural phenomena has long been a subject of interest in Islamic scholarship. The central question is the extent of human involvement in miracles and divine favors (karamat), traditionally manifested among Muslims. The debate arises over whether the agent of such phenomena is human or exclusively God. Wahhabis argue that all supernatural acts originate solely from God and deny the involvement of the will of prophets or saints. This study aims to examine and explain the Wahhabi stance on miracles and karamat and the role of human agency in these phenomena. According to Wahhabi thought, only in limited cases do they acknowledge the role of angels or believing jinn, but they reject human capacity for miracles. Their denial of prophetic or saintly agency stands in contradiction to numerous Qur’anic verses. This paper critically reviews and evaluates these views.
